8 Why are we here?
If a picture tells a 1000 words why do we need to add anymore with alt-text? There are two reasons: because we have to and because we should.

Most univeristies are subject to The Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018, jisc has some good guidance on what this means for universities.
If resources are WCAG 2.1 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) complient then they will conform to the governments regulations. Creating digital objects in place of images aligns with the WCAG principles of:
- Perceivable
- Operable
- Understandable
- Robust
